Backstreet’s Howie D's Design for His Bride

Written by NF Mendoza
Saturday, 15 August 2009 19:41

Backstreet Boys’ may be on tour with his band, promoting their latest album, Unbreakable, but whether she’s touring with him or not, he and his new bride Leigh Boniello each wear meaningful talismans designating their love for each other. Dorough designed a bridal gift -- a beautiful pendant for Boniello with the jewelry company Rock Your Religion: the Chi Rho pendant.

In Greek, Chi Rho means “En Touto Nika,” which, translated, means “In this sign you will conquer.”

howieDorough tells groomsonline.com exclusively, “For our wedding, I wanted to get Leigh something special. Instead of a traditional gift, I opted for a Rock Your Religion Chi Rho pendant. I wanted to give her something that is meaningful to us both. The Chi Rho symbol is a good luck charm with an ancient and spiritual history, representing strength, courage and pride, characteristics that are all a part of our lives and our relationship.”

The singer, who certainly has had his share of female admirers, offers thoughtful advice for grooms searching for just the right bride gift, and says “It’s important to show your bride how much you love her and how much this special day means to you. The gift isn’t as important as what you express to your bride on your wedding day and the meaning behind the gift.”

Dorough’s present was a huge hit, he says, “She loved it so much that she gave the same Chi Rho pendant to her bridesmaids.”

Where many grooms may look towards a more traditional route to choose the ideal gift, Dorough listened, paid attention to what Bonillo admired. He explains, “Leigh’s friend in L.A. was raving about this brand, Rock Your Religion and was wearing their Chi Rho cuff that Leigh knew I would love. She contacted the owner and ordered a leather cuff for me, which I wear constantly. Seeing how much she loved their collection, I knew I had to get her one in return! “

Whether they’re together or apart, the Chi Rho pendant bonds them. “Both she and I wear our Rock Your Religion accessories frequently,” he says. “The symbol is very unique and people often ask us what it means. We love them so much, we partnered up to co-design a pendant to raise money for the Dorough Lupus Foundation in my sister's honor.” Dorough’s sister Caroline died from complications of the disease in 1998. The Dorough Lupus Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization. The Foundation's goals are to aide in research and educate the public about Lupus.

Dorough and Boniello (a filmmaker-turned real estate broker), who met in 2000, when she was the band’s web master, were engaged on New Years’ Eve 2007, but didn’t announce it publicly until August of that year. Dorough told People Magazine that he was more nervous proposing to Boniello at her family’s New Jersey home, with 40 friends and family, than he’d been performing in front of 40,000. The couple married in a traditional Roman Catholic ceremony at Orlando’s St. James Cathedral on December 8, 2007.

Dorough’s Chi Ro Pendant, worn with courage strength and love which are the cornerstones of Rock Your Religion and the principals of the Dorough Lupus Foundation features Dorough’s signature on the back. It is available in the pendant that the couple and their bridesmaids have, as well as cuffs.

Ahora están listos para el nuevo álbum This Is Us.

Get inspired by celebrity engagement rings

Nov 12th 2009 | 12:15pm

You can always count on the stars to sport some serious ice as their wedding day approaches. If you're in the midst of your own wedding planning, check out the wedding rings of the stars before making any big purchases.

In Style Weddings reports that on her wedding day, singer Katharine McPhee of American Idol wore a 3-carat brilliant-cut diamond set by jeweler Cindy Boudov. The rings also boasted platinum bands.

How did McPhee settle on a wedding gown to pair with her gorgeous rings? The star's attitude was go big or go home!

"The thing about weddings is it's the one time in your life that you actually get to wear a big, poofy dress," she told CNN. "Unless you're getting an Academy Award, you really don't have opportunities like that, so you might as well take advantage of it."

If you can't find the wedding ring of your dreams, shop vintage or consider creating your own.

When Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough married Leigh Boniello, the bride sported a three-stone diamond engagement ring that was custom designed for the couple, according to the news source.

Backstreet Boys are here to stay

Posted in: News of the day by newsdesk on July 31, 2009

BACKSTREET BOYS have said they have chart staying power. The US pop group have sold over 100 millions albums in their 12-year career and said their success is down to producing contemporary-sounding records. Speaking to Billboard, member Howie Dorough, said: “We always try to set the bar as high as possible. “We’ve always been a pop R&B group. We focus our songs around good melodies and group harmonies, and hopefully that will have a lot of staying power.” And he added that the group are still confident that they can appeal to new audiences. He said: “I think every artist who wants to be around for a long time and have staying power has to go through that transition. “Some records are going to be bigger than others. You’re always going to be compared to your biggest record. All you can do as an artist is just strive to make the best record you can and ride the rollercoaster as it goes up and down. “I think, overall, we’re gonna be a group that’s here for a long time. As long as people want us and our fans want us, then hopefully we can ride the wave – like I say, the rollercoaster – up and down, and be standing at the very end.” Backstreet Boys release their new album This Is Us on October 5.

EL BACKSTREET BOY HOWIE DOROUGH SERÁ PADRE

Posted: Jan 20 2009, 02:48 PM

Backstreet Boys Howie Dorough Expecting First Child

Posted: Jan 14 2009, 10:44 AM

January 13th, 2009 by Nicole

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough and his wife Leigh, a real estate broker, are expecting their first child in June, they tell PEOPLE exclusively.

“I know she’s going to be a great mother,” Howie said regarding his wife. “If she can take care of me, the biggest baby in the entire world, I think she’s going to be okay with the little one coming along.”

Adds Leigh: “I think he’s going to be more hands-on than anyone expects. He’s someone who will get up in the night and change diapers. He’s such a partner of mine.”

The couple married in October 2007, and traveled a bit before settling down to start a family.

“We’ve been together going on eight years, but we wanted to enjoy and adjust to living married life first,” Howie tells the magazine. “So for the first eight months we traveled all over the world on an extended honeymoon.”

Sadly, Howie’s father Hoke was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer and passed away just three months later in June 2008.

“That kind of put things into perspective – passing on and bringing new life into the world,” says Howie. “At that point we started focusing in on having a child. The baby is due the same month that my dad passed away last year, so it’s almost like realizing life is a circle.”

Leigh, who is craving blueberry muffins, devised an ingenious plan to break the news to her husband.

“Leigh surprised me with breakfast in bed. [I knew] something was up,” Howie recalls. “I looked down and saw the pregnancy test strip [on the tray]. The look on my face was like something from America’s Funniest Home Videos. I thought, ‘Oh my god! Here we go! This is it!’ ”

Says Leigh of conceiving so quickly: “We were really blessed and lucky.”

The couple don’t plan to learn the baby’s sex before it’s born, and are planning a gender-neutral nursery. “We have a home in L.A. that’s modern, a lot of wood,” says Howie. “We want to do earth tones [for the nursery]. We’ve been talking about a jungle or safari theme.”

Howie admits, though, that his side of the family is thinking blue, as Howie has only nieces.

“So I think everybody would love a boy,” he says. “We’re just hoping for a healthy baby.”

The new little one will join two other Backstreet babies, both boys - Brian Littrell’s 6-year-old son Baylee and Kevin Richardson’s 18-month-old son Mason. On how his bandmates reacted, Howie says they “surprised but very, very enthusiastic.” The group, minus Kevin, is recording in L.A. before they head to South America in February to complete their world tour.

Howie Dorough and Wife Expecting a Baby

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough and his wife Leigh, a real estate broker, are expecting their first child in June, they tell PEOPLE exclusively.

“I know she’s going to be a great mother,” says Howie. “If she can take care of me, the biggest baby in the entire world, I think she’s going to be okay with the little one coming along.” Adds Leigh: “I think he’s going to be more hands-on than anyone expects. He’s someone who will get up in the night and change diapers. He’s such a partner of mine.”

After marrying in December 2007, the Doroughs planned to travel before starting a family. “We’ve been together going on eight years, but we wanted to enjoy and adjust to living married life first,” Howie tells PEOPLE. “So for the first eight months we traveled all over the world on an extended honeymoon.”

Howie, 35, and Leigh, 34, had “an amazing time” as they hopped from Japan to Australia to Europe and back to North America on tour with his band. But tragedy struck last spring when Dorough’s father Hoke was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer. He passed away just three months later in June 2008. “That kind of put things into perspective — passing on and bringing new life into the world,” says Howie. “At that point we started focusing in on having a child. The baby is due the same month that my dad passed away last year, so it’s almost like realizing life is a circle.”

How did Leigh share the good news? Will they find out the sex of the baby? Find out below!

Leigh, whose cravings include blueberry muffins, devised a plan to break the news to Howie after discovering she was pregnant after only a month of trying. “Leigh surprised me with breakfast in bed. I knew something was up,” Howie recalls. “I looked down and saw the pregnancy test strip on the tray. The look on my face was like something from America’s Funniest Home Videos. I thought, ‘Oh my god! Here we go! This is it!’” Says Leigh of conceiving so quickly: “We were really blessed and lucky.”

The couple, who doesn’t want to find out the baby’s sex before the birth, is planning a gender-neutral nursery. “We have a home in L.A. that’s modern, a lot of wood,” says Howie. “We want to do earth tones for the nursery. We’ve been talking about a jungle or safari theme.” The Doroughs say that many on Howie’s side of the family are thinking blue — although Howie’s siblings have children, and Leigh’s sister had twins last year, there isn’t a male to carry on the Dorough family surname. “So I think everybody would love a boy,” he says. “We’re just hoping for a healthy baby.”

Howie is the third Backstreet Boy to expand his family — bandmate Brian Littrell and wife Leighanne have a 6 ½-year-old son, Baylee, while Kevin Richardson, who left the group in 2006, has an 18-month-old son named Mason with wife Kristin.
